IAA

The International Academy of Architecture is a non-profit-making company for performing activities for private benefit, hereinafter called the Academy is a corporation in accordance with the Non-Profit-Making Corporations Act (NPMCA). Membership in the Academy is a high honor and a recognition of a special contribution to architecture of natural persons and corporations. Membership is voluntary.

The Academy has academicians, professors and guest professors. Members of the Academy are the academicians and professors.
The greatest names of world architecture (at the most 100) are elected academicians of the Academy.
Architects with a great contribution to world architecture are elected professors and guest professors.
The Academy Assembly elects academicians of the Academy.
The Senate of the Academy elects professors of the Academy.
The President of the Academy elects Guest professors.


The Academy duly fulfils its obligations as advisory member with special status of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations Organization (UNO), of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, of the United Nations Children Organization - UNICEF and collaborates with the United Nations Committee: HABITAT, UNEP, UNESCO etc.
The IAA has active members in the following 40 countries: Armenia, Argentina, Austria, Belarus, Brazil, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Georgia, Germany, Finland, France, Greece, Japan, Jordan, Hungary, India, Italy, Kazakhstan, Korea, Lithuania, Malta, Mexico, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Yugoslavia.
The governing bodies of the IAA are the General Assembly and the Academic Council. The Assembly consists of all the Academy's members (71 Academicians and 76 Professors) and is held every three years. It approves and amends the Statutes, elects new academicians, the Academic Council and its President.
The Academic Council and its President administrate the IAA. The members of the Academic Council (Academicians) and its President are elected for a six-year mandate. The Academic Council meets once a year to coordinate the activities of the IAA and to approve the IAA programs, staff and budget. The Academic Council elects new professors.
The IAA affiliates the following organizations:
- INTERPROJECT, the Academy's Institute of Architectural Research and Design
- The IAA Free University;
- The International Forum of Young Architects;
- The Research Centre for New Technologies and Ecological Energy - Conscious Architecture;
- The Architectural Theory, Creativity and Criticism;


The IAA activities are centered on the implementation of the following programs:
- Sustainable Development of Architecture and Town Planning
- Architectural Theory and its Application
- Architectural Education and Professional Qualification
- Professional Information
- Social Housing
- Architecture and Ecology
- Support of United Nations` programs, declarations and activities
